Maximillian III and Lethrenn III

Fort Gaines is a Civil War Fortress situated on the sandy white beaches of the Gulf. Legend has it that Prince Madoc of Wales landed here in 1171. Now the site will be remembered as the Coronation site of Maximillian and Lethrenn!

Site opens at 4pm Friday. There are no beds at this site, but there is crash space for 100 inside the fort. Period tents are allowed within the fort, nonperiod tents are allowed outside the walls on the grass. There is NO electricity. Shower facilities are across the street at the mundane campground(your shower ticket is included in the site cost). If you want to stay in the campground, call (251) 861-2742 for reservations. Military personnel might try renting a cottage at the Coast Guard Recreation Center. The best hotel option on the island is the Gulf Breeze Motel (1-800-286-0296). There are many house and condo rentals on the island. To secure space in the fort you MUST pre-reserve by mail providing SCA and legal names, proof of membership, and a check made payable to SCA Inc/DBA Barony of the Osprey.NO telephone reservations will be accepted, and no checks accepted at the door. CASH ONLY AT THE DOOR.

All merchants must reserve prior to August 31st, so that we may arrange space within the fort.

Directions: Take your best route to I-10 West out of Mobile. Take exit 17A heading south on Hwy 193. After 7 miles turn left onto Laurendine Road. Go one mile and turn right, continuing on Hwy 193 until you cross the bridge onto Dauphin Island. Make a left at the water tower (3 way stop). The site is 2 miles on the right. The route will be marked with large signs.
